Hi, I’m Hope.

​

I’ve spent my life believing that the best lessons aren’t found in textbooks; they’re found in people.

​

For more than three decades, I’ve been an educator, leader, lifelong learner, and storyteller, helping students discover who they are while continuing to discover who I am.  Along the way, I’ve worn a lot of hats: teacher, mentor, student leadership advisor, community advocate, traveler, wife, mom, and friend.

​

I’m the proud mom of two incredible children, but motherhood has taught me that love isn’t defined by biology alone. Years ago, while serving as the director of a preschool, a little boy came into my life who needed more than a classroom. Welcoming him into our family changed all of us in all the best ways. Since then, my table has always seemed to have room for one more. Former students, young adults, friends, and “bonus kids” have become part of our story, reminding me that family is built as much by love, trust, and showing up as it is by blood.

 

Every one of those relationships has given me another story to tell. Some are funny. Some are heartbreaking. Some have challenged me. Some have changed me. Together, they’ve taught me that hope isn’t just something we have, instead it’s something we choose.

Through Hope Speaks, I will share stories about life, education, family, travel, faith in people, resilience, purpose, and the ordinary moments that shape extraordinary lives. I don’t claim to have all the answers, but I believe there’s wisdom in shared experiences. My hope is that something you read here will make you laugh, encourage you to see life from a new perspective, remind you that you’re not alone, or inspire you to take your own next step.

My father in law and my dad taught me that every person has a story worth telling.  This space is my way of carrying that legacy forward; sharing the stories that have shaped me in the hope that they might encourage someone else.
